The Informer
.
We are in 2012.
It seems that a few short months ago we were preparing for Y2K as the new millennium was upon us. I remember all of the “crashes” which were suppose to occur because of potential computer glitches. They never did materialize.
But has it been twelve years? Yes it has. It certainly does not seem that we are now in the second decade of this century but we are.
So let us be certain to redeem the time. Let us use the time God has given us for His glory. This past week I was asked a question, “How has your day gone?” My response was, “I had not been able to accomplish anything on my to-do list.”
But then I had to pause and think. Regardless of that fact, it had been a great day. God had certainly interrupted my day and given me seven “unplanned” opportunities to speak a good word for Him. Then I had to confess, “Any day that I can speak a good word for Jesus is a good day! As a matter of fact, it is a great day.”
In 2012, look for those opportunities which God gives you to speak a good word for Him. As I have grown in my faith, I am seeing more and more opportunities that God puts in front of me. And I pray that I will be faithful with each opportunity.
Let me say thank you for the $1000 love offering that was given to me by First Baptist. What a blessing you have been and what a joy it is to lead you as your pastor. Let us continue to be faithful to Jesus together. The best is still ahead.
Another praise is that First Baptist has exceeded her Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions goal. The goal was $13,000. We have received to date $15,006!! All of this money will go to support missionaries in foreign lands. Right now Southern Baptists have 4,800+ missionaries serving overseas. Let us continue to do our part – pray, give and go.
With You, In Him, for the World,
Bro. Art
WMU
Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) served a meal to Baptist Campus Ministries, January 18th, on the Prestonsburg Campus of what we still call PCC. We served approximately 135 very appreciative students with the assistance of First Baptist Church Brotherhood men and Bro. Art Beasley.
WMU will again be serving lunch for Baptist Campus Ministries at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Wednesday, February 22, 2012. We need your help: if you would like to be a part of this work you may donate, cookies, brownies, hot dog buns, chips (single packs), drinks or money to purchase food with. We will be serving about 150 students. You may contact Bonnie Tackett 789-1609 or Pat Patton 789-2053, or make checks payable to First Baptist Church and designate WMU.
This activity is a blessing to all who help and puts the face of our Church before many young people. The opportunity to plant seeds for the Glory of God.

EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the Church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever." (Eph 3:20-21)
Praying for Missions is the #1 priority in missions education of the Woman's Missionary Union. Consequently, they have become a primary source of prayer during special offerings and the challenges that go along with sacrificial giving. This is a heavy load and they quickly learned this responsibility demands the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul declared we cannot outgrow this need because each believer remains weak by nature and circumstances. This is true of any of us who are honest with ourselves. We struggle in staying obedient to God's Word. We are fragile in our bodies, frail in our resolve, and failing in our courage. We are weak apart from the Holy Spirit.
Several weeks ago, as we verbalized our thoughts toward God the Father, all the above mentioned weaknesses were
present as we looked at a goal for December 2011 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions going toward the support of our 5,000 missionaries stationed on foreign land. It seemed inappropriate to challange beyond the previous year ($l3,000). You can probably guess what some reasoning could have been.
Well, guess what! The Holy Spirit was not napping during our session. I love the following reminder from Paul's scripture "...for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit He maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Rom 8:26) Regardless what we may say with lips, the Spirit knows what we mean in our hearts. He intercedes for us at that level which is deeper than words.
God's plans are too big to be adjusted to our puny thinking. The Holy Spirit knows each believer and the yearning they have to fulfill that last commandment "Go ye, therefore into all the nations." As of January 15, a total of $17,006 has been designated to this special mission.

The FBC
THANK YOU
The family of Madalene Dixon Gullion (Mother of Bob Dixon and Bunny Dixon O'Bryan) would like to thank everyone at First Baptist Church that came by and showed their respects during mom's passing back in December. Over the years mom and each of us have enjoyed your friendship and learned to love each of you especially when we got together to worship our Lord Jesus. As you can imagine our hearts are broken with mom's passing but the visitations, calls, food and other acts of love each of you showed us helped to ease the pain so much.
Thank you and may God bless each of you.
